One of the key goals of Saudi Vision 2030 was to digitally transform the economy. For this reason, the Kingdom set out a goal of becoming a 10 Gigabit society. This put pressure on the region's telcos to put in place the high speed, low latency network infrastructure required to support this ambition. Zain KSA responded almost immediately. In 2019, it confirmed the first phase of its 5G roll out, launching services with a network of 2,000 towers across 20 Saudi cities.
