Cable operators in the US are facing a growing number of competitors, from fiber providers to rival cablecos. In order to push back against revenue declines, these operators must change the way they do business with customers. Though cable companies (cablecos) were once the gold standard of connectivity in the US broadband market, recent years have seen increasing competition in the high-speed connectivity space. New technological innovations like FTTH, FWA, 5G and LEO satellites have introduced a number of connectivity options for cable operators to contend with. Fiber providers have permeated the market, with the Fiber Broadband Association estimating that fiber lines pass more than half of all US homes, and that total will likely increase in the coming years due to government subsidies designed to bridge the digital gap and provide connectivity to hard to reach areas.
